Amazing Grace (movie tiiime)

Heyyyy today I'm going to talk about a movie I watched... Yesterday ! This movie is entitled Amazing Grace and is starring one of my favourite actors : Ioan Gruffud in the role of William Willberforce.  It's a British-American drama film which came out in 2006. This movie is about the campaign led by William Willberforce against the slave trade that took place in the British Empire in the 18th century.

The title is a reference to the hymn "Amazing Grace", a Christian song published in 1779 and written by the English clergyman John Newton (this man was in the Royal Navy, and after leaving his service, he became involved in the Atlantic slave trade). But the film also tells the experience of this John Newton as a sailor on a slave ship. In the movie Newton has a big influence on Willberforce about the slave abolition movement. As a coincidence, the movie was released in the US on February 23rd 2007, the day of the 200th anniversary of the banishment of the British slave trade.

Even though I'm a big fan of Ioan Gruffudd, I didn't have a heart stroke for this film because it's a bit boring and there's not a lot of touching moment, it doesn't affect the spectator and we don't have the vision of the slaves and this would have been really nice and it would have sensibilized me more about the slavery period. However, it's a good movie if you want to learn more about the slave trade abolishment in England.

Well I hope you enjoyed this article and I leave you with this AMAAAAZING recovery of the hymn Amazing Grace by the wonderful, talented and amazing Whitney Houston. Enjoy ! 😊😊
