Hey, today I'm back to talk about the gold rush that took place in California.
This "rush" lasted 8 years (1848-1856) and began when gold was found out on January 24th, 1848 in a sawmill that belonged to John Sutter near Coloma, California. This discovery was the beginning of an important wave of immigration from latino America, Europe, Australia and Asie. It also attracted over 300 000 adventurers from all over the world. We think that the amount of gold discovered at that time has the value of several billion dollars.
But if some of these immigrants and adventurers found the happiness, others just went back home with nothing more than what they had before. It's also at this time that San Fransisco was created. At the beginning it was just a hamlet with the tents of adventurers, but because of the important population growth they had to build roads, churches, schools and others buildings. A system of law and a government was also created.
Railsroads, agriculture and steamboat got developed. But the gold rush has not only had positive aspects. Indeed many Native Americans were attacked and were driven out of their territory. Also the extraction of gold caused environmental problems.
Well this is the end of this article I hope you enjoyed it, bye !
